I might try and stop swearing

I have a very filthy mouth, I can swear with the best of them. Every sentence would have a swear (curse) word in it if I wanted it to. It’s a core part of my vocabulary and personality and I believe it is not a problem nor is it something I ultimately think needs changing. So why am I thinking of trying to stop?

I have noticed before that sometimes, my swearing just happens when it shouldn’t or isn’t needed. Luckily, I can hold it back when on a call with a customer who I’ve never worked with, but the customers who I have become friendly with, I slip and and drop the odd shit or fuck. I always think, I should be better than that when it happens, but it keeps happening. I enjoy working within limitation and I find them to be stimulating, not a burden and so I am wanting the challenge.

I’m not so sure how I will go about this to be honest. It’s second nature to me to just drop a casual swear word here there and everywhere. It’s a big trait to unlearn but I think it is doable. I think going cold turkey (what every that means lol) might not be the solution. A gradual reigning in might be the only way I can try and make a change. Think a little in advanced, not allow myself to just blurt out any old swear and not worry about progress. I’ll start with the major words first, c and f words. I reckon I might just start saying the s word a lot more, but just rinse and repeat when I feel like I have a good grasp on the major words first. It sounds too easy, but when you have been using certain words, consistently and vigorously for over 25 years, giving up the freedom and expression I gain from swearing will be tough, but potentially rewording.
